My daughter wanted to be an Avatar, so I took a quick snap of her. An hour later, after some extensive work in Photoshop CS5, I ended up with the image on the right. She was quite pleased with it, as was I. :)

Volcanic Sunset

The Volcanic Ash cloud that was moving across western Europe in April 2010 created some wonderful colours in the sunsets. This image was taken at a small rocky outcrop a couple of miles north of White Strand beach, near Milltown Malbay, Co. Clare. I was using a 10-stop ND filter, exposure about 60 seconds.

This image won 1st prize in the colour section of the end-of-year competition held in Limerick Camera Club in May 2010. This competition is where the members of the club bring all the images that placed 1st 2nd or 3rd in competitions throughout the year and an external judge comes in a picks the winners in two categories, colour and monochrome. Imagine my delight when this image was picked in first place in the colour!
